So, last Monday (the 10th) I got some bad news during my endoscopy. I had an appointment booked on the 19th, so they didn't get me another earlier one, and I spent the week+ in a state of dread: trying not to catastrophize, but with that constant anxiety in the background.

Yesterday came around and the my surgeon (he is the best!) explained that "Yeah, things may get worse eventually. But for now we just need to figure out exactly what is up with your body. And once we do, we'll do all we can to stop it". So no emergency surgery or hospitalization, which is a really nice change of pace for me! I told him we were there on the first day of our long holidays, and that I'd been too anxious to plan anything involving being more than 20 minutes away from the hospital. He was all "No you're fine! Go!"

"Even to Norway?" I asked.

"Even to the West Indies!" he replied.

And so. We went home and started trying to plan what had until then been a Schrödinger's holiday. (I told my boss that I might have to cancel it if I got booked up with hospital visits.) Norway is lovely! We've been five times in the past seven years. We had some places in mind for sea kayaking, but on a whim I also checked Skyscanner...

...and this is how we are now leaving for South Korea tonight. We bought tickets less than 24 hours ago, and we are leaving in less than 12.

Neither one of us speak Korean. Neither one of us has been there before. But we love traveling together, and we have been far away from home before! And Skuld has taught me a lot about the joy of spontaneity.

We were up until midnight booking a hotel for our first night, as well as a train to Busan to get away from the torrential rain forecast in Seoul on Tuesday, and I found a really cool walking tour I'm excited for, but the rest of the stay is gonna be improvised on the spot. I am hitting up a friend who's been to Seoul, I have a Lonely Planet guide downloaded to my Kobo, and we have like a dozen recommended apps. We're good to go!

Okay, we need to pack, but then we're good to go.

It's gonna be an adventure!
